Welcome, Friends
Friends of Sequim Library (FOSL) is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization that is not affiliated with the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) or the Sequim Library. FOSL was establish nearly sixty years ago to serve the community and raise funds for the Sequim Library. Every year FOSL makes a donation to the Sequim Library in the amount of $25,000. The library uses these funds to help support children’s programs and community activities associated with the library as well as promote literacy. Over the years FOSL has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Sequim Library, including the donation of $150,000 for the 2025 enlargement and remodel of the library building. This donation will be acknowledged with a dedicated wall and plaque for FOSL in the new children’s area of the library. The founding member of FOSL donated the land the current Sequim Library was built on back in the 1980s, replacing a smaller building at another location. FOSL has a wonderful group of volunteers who collectively put in approximately 475 hours every month to receive donations, shelf books, perform public outreach, and staff our monthly sales. Each and every one of these volunteers are truly valuable and contribute to our success. Our Mission Statement: Friends of Sequim Library (FOSL) shall be a nonprofit corporation whose objective shall be to promote the interests and welfare of the Sequim branch of the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) as a cultural, educational and recreational asset to the Sequim Community. FOSL works with NOLS to provide increased services to the growing population of the Greater Dungeness Valley. FOSL also encourages literacy in the community through involvement with the local schools, businesses and organizations. FOSL in the News

Sponsorship Program Initiative

Friends of Sequim Library is in desperate need of help from our community. Historically, we were located at the rear of the old library in a small building. Once the library enlargement and remodel project was approved we had to relocate to our current unit in Rock Plaza. The owner has generously allowed us to operate rent free for two years and we greatly appreciate that. Unfortunately, the time has come when we are now required to pay rent for the first time in our history. Our board was able to negotiate a reduced rate with the owner and it was decided to remain at our current location until another option becomes available. As of 2025 there are no foreseeable plans to incorporate FOSL on the library property so we are seeking other options. Our Wish List: • A Sequim commercial location of at least 1,400 square feet with little or no rent and a long term lease. • Legacy donations from members of the community, which has helped us in the past. • Purchase of a commercial unit below market value or an owner held note. Our New Sponsorship Program Until we can secure other options, we have decided to start a sponsorship program which will directly help us remain in our current location and keep our doors open. We are asking Sequim residents and small businesses to help support us by becoming a sponsor for as little as five dollars a month. Your sponsorship will allow us to continue to provide our services to the community and to the Sequim Library. We face the prospect of closing our doors permanently if we cannot raise the needed rent or other options do not become available. FOSL is a long standing and treasured part of the Sequim community and we do so much more than just donate money to the Sequim Library. Our monthly book sales open the door to readers at every level and income, since our average book price is still only one dollar. FOSL provides a place for members of our community to empty their shelves and bring us their past loved books and other media, knowing others will find and enjoy them again. And, as an added bonus, this provides an opportunity to come to our monthly sales and find new treasures! This is a win-win and keeps many books out of recycle or trash bins. Please consider sponsoring us so we can continue our efforts to help the Sequim Library, the Sequim community and the greater Olympic Peninsula. Thank you for your interest!
